Web pages on this site having Indian Language text matter use UTF-8 encoded Unicode Characters. To view Indian Languages appropriate Unicode compliant fonts should be installed on your computer.
If you have installed Internet Explorer 6 / 7 on you PC than all the necessary Unicode fonts to view Indian scripts are already installed on your system. If your operating system is Windows XP ( Service Pack 2 with Internet Explorer 6 ) Or Windows Vista, than you do not have to make any changes in your system, everything will work just fine out of box.
Problems may be encountered if you are using other operating systems and some other browser. If for some reason you need Indian Language fonts, than Public Domain freely available Indian Languages Fonts can be downloaded from this link.
Before Indian language text can be viewed properly support for Complex Text Rendering must be enabled on your operating system, otherwise the Indian language characters will appear in wrong order and jumbled. Indian language letter may be identifiable, but not meaningfully readable. Some older operating systems like Windows 95, 98, or Windows ME, and some older versions of Linux do not support complex text rendering and you should not use such systems to view web pages in Indian languages.
If the computer you are using has Internet Explorer Version 6 /7 ( Or Firefox 3 / Safari 3.1 ) installed than support to view Indian languages with complex text rendering is already available, in that case you do not have to bother much in viewing pages with Indian languages. However some problems may be faced depending on which operating system you are using.

The recommanded versions for this web application on MS Windows platform are Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista or Windows 2008 Server
On Windows platform the browsers that works best without glitches is Internet Explorer 6 / 7. Other browsers known to work properly are Apple Safari 3.1 and Mozilla Firefox 3.

These operating systems contain no support for Indian Language scripts natively, therefore they are not recommanded. However Downloading Internet Explorer 6.0 should enable you to view Indian Language scripts on these operating systems. If after downloading Internet Explorer, you still cannot view Indian Language scripts please install an appropriate font. Mozilla Firefox does not support Indian Language scripts on these operating systems(2) Windows 2000

APPLE MACINTOSH
( Mac OS X 10.4 or greater Operating System ) You do not need to do anything to enable viewing of Indian languages, as Indian fonts and support for complex text rendering is enabled in Mac OS. The minimum configuration required on Apple Macintosh computers is MAC Operating System OS X Version 10.4 code named as "Tiger". The minimum supported version of Safari Browser for MAC is Version 3.1. ( Lower versions do not work ). If there is any issue related to browser compatibility on Apple MAC OS X than please use Mozilla Firefox or Camino Browser for MAC.LINUX PLATFORM
On GNU Linux platform only browser that is know to work flawlessly for this web site is Mozilla Firefox ( and other Gecko family of browsers ). The problems may arise either due to non availability of Indian fonts or lack of support for Complex Text Rendering required for Indian Languages. Linux Operating System very in their support for Indian fonts and complex text rendering. Everything depends on which particular Linux distribution you are using and in which desktop environment you are working ( GNOME/KDE ). You are advised to read the documentation on respective distribution.
(A) GNOME Desktop:Support for Complex Text Rendering is right there in GNOME Version 2.8 or later. Ensure you have appropriate Unicode fonts for each script you wish to view .
When using Mozilla or Firefox, you must enable Pango rendering by opening xterm and typing MOZ_ENABLE_PANGO=1 before you start the web browser. After this, all future sessions of Mozilla or Firefox will have Indian Language language support. This will work only on Firefox compiled with ctl support. Only the firefox binaries supplied by Fedora Core 4 and 5, Ubuntu Linux, and Kate OS are compiled with this ctl and set this option, by default.
(B) KDE Desktop
Support for Complex Text Rendering is there in KDE desktop. Ensure that you have appropriate Unicode fonts installed for Indian Languages. Even from KDE Desktop please use Mozilla Firefox 3 or any browser based on GECKO ( Mozilla codebase ) layout engine. Please do not use Konquerer ( KDE's default browser ). Unfortunately Javascripts on this site do not work in Konquerer.
A large number of Linux distributions are available today, however we are in position to provide some tips on Fedora Core 9, 10 and Ubuntu-8.4 / 8.10
Notes for Ubuntu Linux
On Ubuntu 8.04 ( Hardy Heron ) and Ubuntu 8.10 ( Intrepid Ibex ) everything works just fine out of box. All necessary fonts to view Indian Languages are already there and support for complext text rendering is enabled by default.
We do not recommend using versions of Ubuntu earlier than 8.04
Notes for Fedora Linux
Everything just works fine right out of box for Fedora Linux Version 9 and 10. All necessary fonts to view Indian Languages are already there and support for complext text rendering is enabled by default.
We do not recommend using versions of Fedora Linux older than Version 9
